New Resource: Working as an Early Childhood Educator in Ontario for Out-of-Province Applicants

Qualified Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) who are certified in another Canadian province or territory may be able to have their certification recognized in Ontario through the province’s labour mobility framework.

Ontario’s Labour Mobility Act, 2009 is intended to make it easier for certified professionals to move between provinces and territories without having to repeat material education, training, work experience, examinations or assessments they have already completed.

As of January 1, 2026, Ontario also introduced the “As of Right” pathway for eligible out-of-province professionals. For ECEs, this pathway allows those who meet the requirements to begin practising in Ontario for up to six months while completing the regular registration process with the College of Early Childhood Educators.

To help ECEs understand these pathways, B2C2 has developed a new resource: A Guide to Working as an Early Childhood Educator in Ontario for Out-of-Province Applicants: Understanding Ontario’s Labour Mobility Act and the “As of Right” Pathway.

The guide explains which out-of-province ECE certifications are recognized in Ontario, what applicants do and do not have to complete under the labour mobility framework, registration timelines, eligibility for “As of Right,” how to apply, and what happens during and at the end of the six-month period.
