Lambton County council is considering the construction of a second child-care facility at Lambton Meadowview Villa, an existing long-term care home near Petrolia, reports the Sarnia Observer. With provincial funding, the council plans to hire an architect to assess the feasibility of establishing a new facility accommodating up to 90 children alongside a planned dementia care facility at the same site. This initiative is part of Lambton’s goal to add 573 new child-care spaces by 2026, addressing high demand in areas like Petrolia and Enniskillen Township, where the current facility already has a waitlist of over 300 children. The proposed facility, expected to be built with federal, provincial, and county funding, would be owned by the county and leased to a non-profit child-care operator, aiming to address the need for affordable child care and facilitate operator involvement in expansion efforts.
