Child Care is Worth More!

Child care advocacy organizations across the country will be demanding more for child care on June 20 at their day of action. The key messages for this day of action are:

  • ECEs and child care workers are worth more! The only way to solve the child care workforce shortage is with decent work and pay.
  • Families waiting for child care are worth more! We need child care funding and a workforce and expansion plan to ensure access for all families.
  • To deliver on the promise of the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care system to families, we need governments to ensure better pay, better quality, better access.
The Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care is asking the government of Ontario to commit to a strategy to solve the child care workforce shortage by including in their strategy:
  • A real salary scale starting at $25 per hour for all child care workers and $30-40 per hour for Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs);
  • Benefits and pensions;
  • Paid sick days;
  • Professional development time;
  • Paid programming time;
  • Decent Work Standards
